What I learned in the Cafeteria

Only 7 more work day remain until my boss comes back.

I am looking forward to her return.

Here's what I learned this week:

  • Preparation is important. If you are going to serve lunch at 10:30 because of a field trip you should probably get the frozen PB&J sandwiches out the night before. They were a little on the chilled side today. **smile**
  • Paperwork. I thought there was a lot of paperwork and then the month ended and I realized I hadn't seen anything yet. Plus, my boss is still handing all the actual food ordering. All I'm doing is milk and bread and that resembles a trig problem.
  • Muffins with Mom. It's only 300 plus people at 8:00 a.m. on a Friday. There's no reason to panic. You can have a muffin with your kids before you get there......at some ungodly hour like 7 a.m.
  • Steamers are hot. My co-worker learned the hard way not to get too close to the steamer once it is opened. Good thing she was wearing glasses or she might not have eyebrows.
  • Pay attention to the alternate. Everyday we offer a regular lunch, PB&J and an alternate. The alternate varies from week-to-week. This week it was Yogurt/cheese/crackers. While you may be able to eat ravioli with a fork...you can't eat yogurt...especially if you are five.
  • Bag lunch rocks. Once you get past all the bag stuffing, bag lunch can be fast and efficient and if it's a nice day you can send kids to the playground to eat. There are limited dishes to wash, the cafeteria is easy to clean and you may just find yourself pulling out of the school parking lot at 12:45 on a Friday!

Peace, love and joy to you and yours this weekend.

LOST: a repeat

Doesn't ABC realize that it is impossible to do a recap blog post when they run a repeat episode of LOST.

Seriously.

That. Was. Annoying.

On the off chance that you are visiting just to read my recap (which is likely wishful thinking on my part) I'm sending you here.

Visiting will allow you to read one of the most clever LOST poems e-vah!

So what are you waiting for? Click the link and come back and tell me what you thought.

A recent a-ha moment I had

Ever been a witness to bullying?

Last week at t-ball practice, I was sitting down at the field watching my son practice while my girls enjoyed some time at the playground a few feet away.

At the end of practice, I learned that some older girls were torturing one of their classmates.

They made her sing.

They mocked her.

They made her cry.

They laughed at her.

Seeing them all huddled together on the playground made me angry. I wanted to kick all of their asses and call all of their mothers.

Sometimes I forget that I'm 5 foot 2 and the size of an average fourth grader.

It wasn't until we were in the car driving home that I heard most of the story but it made me realize something.

I'm no better than that gaggle of girls on the playground.

Down at the field was the grown up version of what was happening on the playground. I was in my own gaggle of moms. We are comfortable with each other and we don't usually invite anyone else into our circle.

Especially those a little different than us.

Especially the mother of the classmate who was being tortured.

Granted, we weren't openly mocking her. But we weren't openly welcoming her either.

I guess if I'm going to angry by the behavior of the tweens on the playground than I should be equally as angry by my own behavior.

This Thursday I will make more of an effort to make sure my circle seems welcoming and inviting.

I invite you to do the same.

Weekend update: It's a fly party

We had a good weekend.
We had a party with a few friends.
Of course, they all have at least two kids each. So needless to say we had A LOT of people in an out of our house this weekend.
And now it is a fly party.
Any one have any great suggestions on how to get approximately 50 flies out of your house? I already hung fly tape from my chandelier. It looks a little tacky (no pun intended) but it seems to be serving its purpose.
However, there are always a few smart ass flies in the bunch and they aren't falling for the fly tape.
I've been killing them a handful at a time with the fly swatter but I think they may be multiplying.
Help...I'm being over run!
Aside from the flies and some drunk idiot walking through my screen door and braking the metal and not telling me...the party was a huge success and a lot of fun.
On Sunday we met up with my dad and my step-mom at a park and restaurant about a 1 1/2 hours away. My dad's birthday was on Friday and we gave him a present and treated for lunch.
The weather was a little chilly but the company this weekend couldn't be beat.
What did you do?

What I learned in the Cafeteria this week

This was the first full week of me, as cafeteria manager.

The first full week of being in charge of two women who really don't like each other.

The first full week of having to order the f**kin' bread and milk.

The first full week of lots of paperwork.

I am happy to report that I survived.

For what it is worth here is what I learned:

  • Don't forget to count the trays. On Tuesday we didn't count out any trays or have anything ready to serve food on. Trays are very important.
  • PB&J is a pain. We only get one count for how many students are having PB&J. However, we serve both grape and strawberry uncrustables. So basically if 56 kids order PB&J I have to decide how many grape and how many strawberry to thaw. You can bet your fanny that if I thaw more grape they ask for strawberry and if I thaw more strawberry they will ask for grape.
  • I don't like it when people talk for me. Have you ever worked with anyone that no matter who the question is addressed to ie: "Kisa, can you tell me where the crackers are?" that they will answer before you can speak. The sub is a talk over you all the time kind of person. It is making me mad...mad I say.
  • Servings per bag are not accurate. For example we thought one bag of curly fries made 22 servings. Apparently it does...but only if you have a person capable of of grabbing an actual handful of fries and putting them on the tray. If they grab a teeny tiny bit instead you will have SIX totally full trays of fries left at the end of lunch.
  • Math continues to suck. I've said it before and I'll say it again. I don't like math. Somehow I added 117 and 16 and got 155. I was even using an adding machine. LOL We made a few extra chicken patty sandwiches because of that.
  • Dick the milkman. Until today I've never heard him speak and I learned that he is one funny guy. Plus I enjoy yelling "Hey, Dick!" Another great point is that if you see Dick, you can be sure it is Friday.
  • Working with my kid. I took Big G to work with me on Thursday for the day. We had to start at 6:30AM to set up a staff breakfast because apparently I didn't have enough to do this week. She did really well as a lunch lady but was exhausted by the time we went home. She said, "I didn't realize that lunch ladies never sit." Also, whatever I was thinking she was saying....it was sort of humorous. What age do you learn to bite your tongue?
  • People will fight over everything: The funniest argument of the week was whether or not to serve 4 cheese sticks or 6 cheese sticks. Everyone was sure they were right. I, personally, couldn't give a rat's ass how many we serve as long as we have enough. So I decided on five because believe it or not this decision will not change the world. Now how can I convince the rest of the cafeteria staff that it doesn't really matter.

What did you learn this week?

LOST: The last recruit

This week on Lost....

Jack and Flocke have a man to uh...man?

Sun visits the only hospital in L.A.

John visits the only hospital in L.A.

We learn that the depth of wells can be deceiving.

Sawyer can sail a boat.

We learn that boat sailing is sexy.

Ilana is a lawyer? WTF?

We learn that Lost writers love Star Wars.

Shortly after Hurley, LePenis, Sun and Jack arrive at Camp Smokey, Flocke says to Jack that they need to chat.

After getting approval from Hurley (what was that all about), Jack and Flocke do just that.

"You look pretty good for being dead," said Jack.

"Thanks," said Flocke. "I like this body better than that of your fathers. It's younger and it lets me show off the cool scar by my eye. Plus I don't have to wear those stupid white sneakers anymore."

"Don't mock my father, Flocke."

Flocke tells him he is so happy to see him that he could just spit. After all, if Camp Smokey is going to leave the island they must go together.

"Live together, die alone."

After returning to camp, he gets cornered by crazy in the flesh, Claire.

She wants to know what made him decide to join up with Flocke. He tells her he's not sure where he stands. She reminds him that like it or not he is now on the dark side. After all, he let Flocke speak to him.

Meanwhile, back in the tiny village of L.A.

John is fighting for his life in an ambulance racing towards the only hospital around. The one Jack works at.

Sun is also on her way to that very hospital.

Jack is not there. He is at the will reading of his father with his non-existent son.

Who is his lawyer? Ilana. Remember her? She blew herself up with dynamite last week. This week she's stumbling onto Jack's sister and blowing him up. Metaphorically. And she really didn't stumble onto Claire, Desmond kind of pushed her there.
On a personal note I found the idea of Ilana as a lawyer one of the most unbelievable twists in Lost history. That's saying a lot since I'm okay with polar bears and time travel.

Anyway, just as Jack learns that he has a sister and that he isn't going to get all of his daddy's fortune his phone rings and he is off to save one or all of the Losties again.

Meanwhile, no matter the time zone, Sexy...I mean Sayid, is unlikely to survive. Let's face it people--he's soulless in both versions. There's a little foreshadowing going on here.

In LA, he is fleeing from the scene of a quadruple murder and being apprehended by the only police officer in that same small village.

That's right...Sawyer.

Poor Naydia. She can't catch a break. Piece of advise: Both brothers are nothing but trouble. Take the kids and go far far away.

Back on the island at Camp Smokey, Sarah Palin shows up and explains how she can see Alaska from the beach. No one has a clue what she is talking about and then she calls for back up.

A bomb goes off.

She demands the return of Desmond by midnight or the next time she won't miss.

Flocke tells Sayid to go and kill him.

You have to admit that Desmond is having a bad day. He was kidnapped, drugged, magnetized, demagnetized and then thrown down the shallowest well in the history of well digging.

Now he is about to be shot by a soulless Iranian.

"Why, brother? What have you been promised in return."

"Nadia. I will be with Nadia again."

"And what will you tell her? When she asks what you have done to be with her again, what will you tell her?
Oh how I wish we could have heard the answer.

Back in LA

Sun, Jin and the baby are fine.
Jack is operating on John. Will he walk again or will he die? Doesn't he have to die in both time lines? What are your thoughts?

On the island:

Sawyer, Jack, Kate, LePenis and Sun take Flocke's sailboat and head to Hydra island. They are going to steal Whitmore's sub. Jack gets cold feet and jumps ship. He swims to shore and finds Flocke. Then the bombs start going off again. He is out of sorts.

Sawyer and his crew are detained by Palin and the secret service.  Jin and Sun are reunited. I would say more about this but the entire reunion was so anti climatic that it isn't really even worth mentioning.
It looks like they may all be executed...but I have my doubts.
Best lines of the night:

After the first bomb exploded at Camp Smokey Claire said to Hurley "What's going on?" His response..."People trying to kill us again."

Sawyer telling Jack who is invited on his cruise line. "You know, the pilot. The one who looks like he belongs on the set of a Burt Reynolds movie."
Only four more episodes remain.

Ugh...another blog talking about healthcare

I usually try to steer this blog clear of hot topics. I take it personally when people stop following and though I tend to lean to the liberal side of things I usually keep most of my opinions to myself.

Until today.

Today I'm pissed off.

Why?

Because my daughter's pediatrician's office is gouging my insurance office and it is pushing me over the edge. Let me explain. My daughter had a wart on her foot. It wouldn't go away after numerous treatments from various over the counter medications.

I took her to the doctors.

They froze it. The entire process took less than 1 minute.

It didn't go away. They told me we had to return.

We returned. They froze it two additional times. Each time the office visit lasted less than one minute.

They billed my insurance nearly $500!

They coded these procedures as "surgical".

I find this insulting.

The best part....I paid $45 in co-pays but now my insurance is saying, "Hey, this is way more than our allowable amount and so you are responsible for the rest."

My doctors office is now billing me $193.00 for my share of the costs to freeze off a wart from my daughters foot.

You have got to be fucking kidding me?

The kicker of all kickers. This is written at the bottom of the bill

Payment is due by May 10, 2010. If payment is not received by the above due date your account will be assessed a monthly $10 re bill fee.

So not only are you billing me nearly $200 bucks for a wart I've already paid $45 for (plus the cost of all the over the counter stuff I tried first) you are now insulting me further by telling me that if I don't pay you that you will in turn start charging me interest just for the privilege of being billed.

I am seriously considering getting another doctor. Of course, this will just cost me more money because I still owe the $200 bucks and they won't copy my kids records until it is paid and then they will most likely charge me a per sheet fee to copy the documents.

Seeing what they charge for wart removal, I'm guessing it will be about $5.00 a page to have my records copied.

Healthcare needs reform. Am I saying that the Obama administration is going about it the right way. No. But at least the issue is on the table. At least it isn't being swept under the carpet like it has been by so many Presidents before.

Doctors should not be allowed to classify a procedure that takes less than one minute to perform as "surgical" and those who do should be ashamed of themselves.

Weekend update -- the calm before the storm

I had a nice weekend.

Of course, the pending "Your in charge for the next three weeks" begins TODAY.

Ugh. I don't want to be in charge.

We had a low key weekend. I took Little G swimming and HE CRIED. He hates swim lessons. I'm about to give up. He loves the water and he loves being in it but he HATES swim lessons. I don't know what to do. What would you do?

I scrapped a little, I shopped a little, I ate a little.

All in all it was a fantastic weekend. The weather sucked but it made being inside all that more enjoyable.

What did you do this weekend?

Sunday Citar - Laverne

In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance,
everyone should have a dog that will worship him and a cat that will ignore him.”
This is a picture of my cat, Laverne. I got her when I was a senior (or maybe a junior) in high school. She liked to climb in my hair and always kept me company when I lived at home. She kept my dad company after he and my mom divorced. She still lives with him.
She is 21 years old. That's right. She's still alive. I took this picture at Easter when we visited with my dad. Other than the fact that she is skinny as a rail, she is still pretty lovalable.

Let's Get Crafty Saturday - those scrapbook pics I promised long ago

Last weekend I went away with my friend, Megan. Ten years ago, we met in a Baby & Me class when our oldest children liked us a lot more than they do now. We stayed in a hotel and scrapped the weekend away.

I made 35 pages!

We went out for Mexican Food Friday night.

We had margaritas.

We only drank a handful of beers over the course of the weekend.

But we ate almost an entire bag of chips and salsa.

I remembered my swimsuit; Megan forgot hers.

0 hours in the pool.

0 hours in the jacuzzi.

I woke up with a headache on Saturday.

Megan laughed at me because I took Ibuprofen from the housekeeper.

Do you think it is funny that I asked the housekeeper for meds?

We went to Walmart in our PJs on Saturday night.

We were better dressed than most.

Megan needed more adhesive.

I scrapped pictures from September into December.

of 2007....

Megan is still scrapping 2005....

We had a really good time and it was great to see her. It has been over a year since we've been able to get away. We used to live within 20 minutes of each other when both our families lived in Ohio.

Now I'm in Pennsylvania and she is in New York.  Six hours separate us, but we still remain great friends.  Looking forward to a chance to see her again in the fall.  What did you make today?

LOST - Everybody Loves Hugo

I was very excited about this episode as, like the title eludes, I love Hugo. I think most Losties too. He is an unlikely hero and I have high expectations for him as this show nears its conclusion.

On the island, Richard and Ilana are in a sort of power struggle and grasping at straws.

Richard: "How do you kill smoke?"
Ilana: "Dynamite. That kills everything."
Richard: "True. And I know a ship that has been on this island since the late 1800s that is loaded with dynamite. It still works because this is not likely to solve any of our problems."
Ilana: "Let's go get some."
Richard: "Where will we put it?"
Ilana: "I will just shove it down into my backpack. We'll trek it through the forest and blow up that plane. That way even if we don't kill smokey we will successfully trap us all on this island until the end of time."
Richard: "This is a good idea. Especially the part about you carrying the dynamite."

Any guess who blew up in mid sentence? Go ahead...shout out the answer when you know.

Meanwhile, back in LA. Hugo is a gazzilionaire with a heart. Yep. You heard that right. He is not only The Mr. Cluck Chicken he is the man of the year, the person of the year and the bachelor of the year.

His mama is proud of everything except the bachelor part. She fixes him up on a blind date.

She doesn't show. But guess who does. That's right. LIBBY! Sweet! I love Hugo and I love Libby. This has to be great. Wrong. She's in the mental hospital that Hugo used to be in. She was apparently on an outing and her doctor lost track of her.

Before she is carted away, she tells Hugo that they are soul mates. That they were in a plane crash together. That they liked each other. He likes her but can't get over the fact that she is loony. Or so he thinks.

Richard is pissed that Ilana blew up the only dynamite they had and he wants to get more. Jack says, "Maybe she blew it up to show us not to mess with dynamite." Jack does have a doctorate degree. He may be on to something.

Michael appears to Hugo and tells him that they must not destroy the plane. That he must convince everyone to go and talk to Flocke.

Meanwhile, Flocke is getting to know Desmond whom Sayid captured and tied to a tree. While he was there "rescuing" Desmond he didn't bother to bring back Jin.

Flocke wants to know all about the experiment that Desmond was involved in and why Chuck brought him back to the island. Desmond seems to be on Xanax and says, "I have no idea, brother."

Flocke takes him to a well in the middle of nowhere and throws him in. In the Bible, Jacob had a son named Joseph. He wore a coat of many colors. In the Veggie Tale version, he is a pickle and his brother's are peas. They throw Joseph down a well. Things end up better for Joseph than all of his brother--just sayin...

Back in LA: Desmond shows up and talks to Hugo. He says, "What's the matter, brother?" Hugo tells him that he met a nice woman but that she is crazy. Like really crazy...he saw the van and everything.

Desmond tells him not to give up. Hugo go to the hospital and makes a huge donation and visits with Libby. She tells him again that they are soul mates. He asks her out on a date. They finally have their picnic on the beach. You know the one Michael so jacked up when he MURDERED Libby!!!

When she kisses him he sees their life on the island.

He is remembering.

Back on the island:

Hurley blows up the black rock. No more dynamite. No more problem. Richard is pissed. He is going to look for some more elsewhere. Ben and Miles go with him.

Hurley convinces the rest of them, mute Sun, Jack and LePenis, to go with him to talk to Flocke. Hurley is scared. Jack is thinking about Kate. Sun wants to see Jin but will have to wait until the finale and LePenis can't believe that he hasn't blown up yet.

Back in LA.

Desmond is sitting in a car outside of a school. Ben thinks he looks creepy. That's kind of funny, isn't it? He tells him to move along. Desmond says, "Okay, brother."
He speeds out of the parking lot and runs over Locke at full throttle. It was impressive.
Fade to black. Until next week....

We interupt this blog with a small moment of insanity

I'm completely losing my mind.

I'm living on red bull and little to no sleep.

I'm convinced that I'm actually starting to look like that scary lunch lady from your nightmares.

I'm overwhelmed.

Do you want to know why?

Here's a few reasons:

~my boss, the head cook, is having surgery and will be out for three weeks. This is causing me to have some serious anxiety. I know what you are thinkin--how hard can it be to be a lunch lady. The answer is that it is not that hard, but that is because I work with S. She is organized. She knows how to make Pot Pie. She gets the big ugly bags of eggs out the night before to thaw. She orders the bread and the milk. She knows exactly where the chicken nuggets live in the freezer. I, on the other hand, have never been called organized. I don't like to do math. I'm not sure how to order the bread even though she has shown me. Bags of eggs gross me out. I do not like to go in the freeze because it is cold and I'm afraid of getting stuck in there. I don't want to be in charge.

~The lady who I replaced at the cafeteria is coming back to work the three weeks that S is off. She and D (the only other cook/person there) don't really like each other. That is one of the reasons she left. I am grateful she is coming back but I worry that my referreeing skills are a little weak from constant over straining when dealing with my own children. I will have little patience for childlike behavior when "in charge" over the next three weeks.

~In addition to my lunch lady by day career, I also write for the evening paper. It is school budget time. Did I mention that I don't like to do math. It always boggles my mind when I write about millions of dollars and have to figure out things like tax percentage increases and how that transfers into a millage rate and how that millage rate increase transfers into a tax increase. Just typing that sentence gave me a headache.

~I'm a day behind in everything. A day behind in blogging. A day behind in reporting. A day behind in bread ordering. A day behind in laundry. A day behind...okay more like a month behind...in home upkeep. I promise to visit your blogs sometime this month.

To quote a hobbit..."I feel thin... sort of stretched, like butter scraped over too much bread."

Probably the bread I'm going to forget to order next week.

Weekend Update: -- Scrapping the day away

I went on my semi-annual scrapbook trip with my friend, Megan from New York. Actually we had a heck of time getting together last year because of our busy schedules and this year we had to reschedule twice because of the weather. So maybe I can't call it a semi-annual trip. It's more like a oh-please-let-this-happen kind of a trip.

Anyway, I'm happy to report that I got 35 pages completed! It was a great escape from my daily routine and my face still hurts from laughing.

I'm having computer issues and i can't post any pictures right now. But I will try to update the post later with a few of my favorite layouts.

Happy Monday to you all.

Let's Get Crafty Saturday - belated Easter Cards

kisatrtle

Here are a few Easter greetings I made. The cups are new from Stampin Up. They already have adhesive on them and I really like them. They fit perfectly with their circle punch.

The ladybug is a stamp my mom got me for Christmas and it is also my first attempt at using my new Copics.

Here are the other two cards I made. I have no idea why blogger is insisting that they be turned this way. I hope it's not too annoying as I can't be bothered to change it.

Did you make anything for Easter?

What I learned in the Cafeteria this week

This week flew by. Here's what I learned:

  • Only KFC should serve anything called a potato bowl. There are multiple reasons for this post but the top three reasons would be 1) elementary students do not like their food to touch let alone to mix 2) the only word they saw on the menu was popcorn chicken 3) they had no idea we were going to bury that chicken in mashed potatoes, corn, cheese and gravy.
  • Serving food mixed together in one big bowl will result in many children crying.
  • Numerous children crying about the same thing is very loud.
  • Be specific about everything. For example, when taking a part time job make it very clear up front that you have no desire, want or need to ever start work at 7 a.m. and fill in for the Cafeteria manager for three weeks while she has her gall bladder removed. Seriously, people I'm not doing it and it will now become one of my standard interview questions.
  • Having the water heater go on the fritz can be a blessing. It means you get to serve lunch on paper trays for two straight days.
  • Hash browns are considered a vegetable. So are pickles.

What did you learn this week?

LOST: Happily Ever After

I was looking forward to this episode as soon as I realized it would feature Desmond.  For many reason, but specifically it's because he is so stinking cute and I just love his accent.

It doesn't take Desmond long to realize that he isn't living the good life on a ship with his wife, Penny and their baby Charlie.  In fact, shortly after Zoey, aka Sarah Palin wakes him from his slumber he tries to beat Charles to death with a IV pole.

He is unsuccessful and soon learns that he need to take part in "an experiment".

Meanwhile, the Desmond who landed at LAX is smooth, single and employed by Charles Widmore.  If that wasn't enough to make your stomach lurch, I have to admit that the office hug made me vomit a little.

Who's the limo driver?  None other than George!  The same George who was on the cargo ship and couldn't find his constant.  Remember when he died in Desmond's arms?  His last words "I can't get back."  It was great to see him again.  Still working for Widmore, but not bleeding from his nose.

LA Desmond learns that he must pick up Charlie at the police station and "babysit" him for the day.  DriveShaft, Charlies band, is preforming at a benefit being put together by Mrs. Widmore and she is not someone you want to cross.

Desmond having never met anyone quite like Charlie before soon finds himself at a bar having a drink with him.  He tells him about how he nearly died on the plane and how at that moment he realize that he has known love and basically describes Clair but doesn't know how he knows her.  He seems determined to kill himself so he can find her.

Desmond tells him he has a choice.  He can go with him or he can sit around and fantasize about his mystery girl.  "There is always a choice, mate."

The two proceed to Desmond's car and Charlie give Desmond a choice.  He can either get out of the car or stay in it and learn what he is talking about.

Charlie grabs the wheel and drives them straight into the water.  The car begins to sink and just like we've seen before Charlie makes no attempt to stop himself from drowning.  For a brief moment, while Desmond is trying to save him he sees NOT PENNY'S BOAT scrawled on his hand.

Desmond doesn't know who Penny is.
After he and Charlie are taken to Jack's hospital, Desmond is given a CAT scan.  During the CAT scan he has flashes of his other life.  The life he spent with Penny.  The birth of his son.  Soon he is convinced that Charlie may be on to something.

He finds him in the hospital and realizes that he has nothing written on his hand soon he is told by Widmore that he must tell his wife that DriveShaft will not be playing the benefit.

Who, you ask is Mrs. Widmore, F**KING Eloise Hawkings.  But in this episode it is Eloise Widmore!  And Daniel is there...he is Daniel Widmore and not Daniel Faraday.  My brain turned to mush shortly after this.

After overhearing, Desmond ask about Penny only to be nearly beheaded by Eloise, Daniel follows Desmond to his car.

He tells him that just the other day he saw a beautiful redhead who he is certain he has loved before and wants to know if Desmond feels this way about Penny.  Daniel then shows him a drawing he made in his journal and says "I'm a musician and there is no way I should have been able to do this quantum physics.  I think that I may have set off a nuclear bomb.  I think this may mean that we aren't where we are supposed to be."

Daniel tells him that Penny is his half sister and then he tells Desmond he can find her jogging at the stadium.
Desmond finds her and faints when they touch hands.  The agree to see each other again later for coffee.  After all, you always have a choice.

When Desmond returns to the limo, George says "Did you find what you were looking for?"

Desmond answers yes.  Then he asks if George can get him the list of all the people who were on the flight from Sydney.  George says sure, but why?  and Desmond says he has something he needs to show them.

Meanwhile, back on the island, after turning one person inside out in an electromagnetic box, Widmore throws Desmond into the box and turns it on.  Desmond does not turn inside out.

But when he wakes he is no longer angry.  He is cooperative.  Sarah Palin is suspicious.  Desmond tells her that a lot can happen in 20 minutes.

Sarah says she knows.  She lost an election with a 10 minute TV interview with Katie Couric.

NEXT WEEK:  Hurley and his story.  Damn....I'm excited about that.

Lunchbox Brigade

I'm tired of french fries qualifying as a vegetable.

I think baked beans are legumes and should be considered a protein.

I believe that fresh is best.

I think strawberry flavored milk with 26 grams of sugar should not be put on Lucky Charms.

April Book of the Month -- 13 Reasons Why

Have you ever heard a rumor?

Have you ever let that rumor influence your opinion about someone?

Have you ever thought about calling so-and-so and telling them how you feel, but you didn't?

Have you ever seen sadness in someones eyes and ignored it?

If you answered yes to any of the above, this book will intrigue you. I couldn't put it down. It's nearly 300 pages and I read it in its entirety in one weekend. (**note**This is incredibly fast for me.) It's the first book written by Jay Asher and it is a keeper.

One of the main characters, Clay, receives a package in the mail from the other main character in the book, Hannah. Inside the package are cassette tapes listing the 13 reasons she decided to end her own life. He is receiving the package because he is one of the reasons she committed suicide.
The book takes you through each tape, through each event, through each moment that snowballed into something more.
It will make you laugh, will make you cry and will make you really take notice of the people you interact with on a daily basis. It will also make you think twice before you spread a rumor or listen to a rumor or worse yet change your opinion about someone based on something you heard instead of something you know.
Just think about what a wonderful world this would be if we all went straight to the source and found out facts instead of fiction.

I urge you to read it.

I urge you to recommend it to a friend.

Finally, I urge you to listen to that small voice in your head and call that someone you've been thinking about.

Weekend Update: Here comes Peter Cottontale

We've been on Spring Break most of this past week and decided to travel to western Pennsylvania for the Easter holiday.

My dad had tickets to the final Johnstown Chiefs game and he gave them to us.  Hubby and I and his Dad and his sister and her husband came along.  It was a good time, but the hockey was a little pathetic.  The Chiefs lost 5-3.

The cousins got to color eggs together.  That was messy and fun.  Of course, now grandma is stuck eating all those eggs.  LOL

Earlier in the week the school district employees had an Easter egg hunt.  I think my kids were a little old for it, but they had fun too.  Here they are pictured with my friend, Becky's, kids.

In the middle of last week, the kids and I and a bunch of our friends went to this place. It's called Bounce U and it's basically a warehouse filled with bounce houses. The kids loved it.

Here's hoping the Eastern Bunny was good to you and that you had a blessed Easter holiday.

10 things I learned from blogging

I've been blogging for a while now.  I'm not famous by any stretch of the imagination.  I'm not even looking to make money off this blog (gasp).  I just enjoy writing it.

This being my 600th post I thought I would share with you some things blogging has taught me.

  1. There are some amazing and fantastic blog writers out there.  They make me laugh, they make me cry and they make me want to come back for more.
  2. Comments are like crack.  I can never get enough of them.
  3. Blogging is better than therapy.
  4. Blogging has helped me learn things I never thought I would be able to do.  Among them:  changing my blog from two to three columns and how to make my very own blog header.
  5. People actually stop by regularly to hear what I have to say.  (This one still boggles my mind).
  6. Digital pictures are more useful when you blog.
  7. Friendships can bloom from blogging.  This is something I never really dreamed about.
  8. Blogging can encourage you to do more.  More reading, more writing, more walking.
  9. I am not the only mom out there who sometimes feels overwhelmed, under appreciated and disrespected.
  10. When we blog, we are never alone.
Thanks for stopping by.  This post was inspired by Mama Kat's Writing Assignment.  Stop by and see what everyone else is talking about.
