Christmas by the numbers: 2011

It has become a sort of tradition around this here blog to post Christmas By the Numbers.  The post is an attempt at a non-boring holiday recap that can be laughed at by my children once they are grown.

Regular readers will recall the when we do Christmas, we DO Christmas.  Months, weeks and days worth of Christmas.  It feels like it never ends and every year I wonder the same thing..."Why do I do this?"

Just when I become convinced that my mostly ungrateful children will soon expect a present from the waitress at the All-You-Can-Eat pancake buffet...it thankfully ends.

Number of Christmas celebrations: 6

Number of times I had to remind my kids to say Thanks: 534

Number of times I won BINGO: 5

It's starts at my Aunt's house.  The gathering used to be much larger, but most of my cousins don't come anymore.  It's still a fun time.  We have a pot luck and we play cheesy holiday games for cheesy holiday prizes, which is always a hoot.

Of course, my kids end up with LOTs of random things.

I must admit, the kids are actually starting to look forward to going and I really have nothing to complain about.

This year we also attended my husband's holiday work party.  It was at a local hotel conference room and they had build-a-bear show up there.  They also had brunch and free Santa pics.

Number of times my kids whined: 67

Number of times my kids laughed: 154

Number of times my kids fought with each other: 6,457

My mom, her husband and my grandmother came to visit, bringing gifts on the 23rd.  They spent one night at the house.  We went to family church service.  My grandma was amazed by all the "new fangled gizmos"  What was the gizmo, you ask?  A glow stick.

Number of times my mom asked if her cookie making was annoying: 8

Number of times my grandma's childhood friend made me smile: 5

Number of chairs my mom bought for us: 2

Number of chairs in the boxes: 4

Number of pictures of me with my great-grandmother: 0

Number of pictures of my kids with their great-grandparents: more than 100

Mandatory Sad-Sock-Face pictures: 5

Time my kids got up Christmas Day: 4:55 a.m.

Time they started fighting: 5:43

Time I took my first nap: 7:30

After our very early Christmas morning celebration, the next day we headed three hours west to visit with more family.  The celebrations continued!

We had Christmas dinner at my in laws house.  We were joined by our cousins.

It is always fun when we get together.  Loud...but fun.  After dinner and clean up (no dishwasher) we opened presents.  Little G. was tickled with his Hex Bug Hive.  He got a lot of enjoyment out of that gift.

number of dishes I washed:  0

Number of dishes I put away in the wrong spot: 8

Number of times one of the kids cried: 5

Number of Advil I needed: 6

Best part of being at my dad's for our final Christmas of the season?  Shaking up dinner.  We decided to have Japanese for supper.  Nothing like a little California roll to ring in the season.

Number of Redneck wine glasses I got: 3

Number of laughs I got from those glasses: countless

Number of times my son complained about his learning laptop: 5
(He doesn't like presents that "make him learn") LOL

Number of days I waited once we returned to take down the tree: 1

Goodbye Christmas 2011.  You were very good to us, even though you did overstay your welcome.

Weekend Update: a little bit of this, a lot of that.

Friday started out a little crazy and the theme just carried over all throughout our weekend. I woke up to the phone ringing at 6:55 a.m. on Friday. It was the head cook I work for informing me she was sick and wouldn't be in. Something that doesn't happen very often as she has approximately 274 accumulated sick days and no I'm not making that up.

At 7:10 I realized that little G and Big G both have fevers again.

Hubby volunteered to stay home with them and take them to the doctors. They were fighting fevers on and off all week as well as coughs.

Oldest has pneumonia, youngest is getting better.

I had to figure out how to feed 200 + kids without enough pizza. I burnt my arm on the oven and our sub said the same thing over and over again. Fun times.

Kids are on the mend and my dog (who always looks so happy) loves my Santa hat. Thought I'd share this pic.

Saturday we had breakfast with Santa tickets at oldest's school. She begged to go and since we already paid for it and since you can't really "give" someone pneumonia we decided to go. I'm pretty sure this means we won't be winning that coveted parents of the year award. Though I'm doubtful we were still in the running anyway.

To further prove that my kids aren't even the slightest bit sick, we took them to my husband's work holiday party. It was specifically for the kids and at a local roller skating rink. Youngest and Middle have never been on skates so it was quite a work out holding them up. I told hubby not to get skates, but he didn't listen and took a couple of spills I wish I would have gotten on video.

And just to prove that you can't do too much stuff in one day, youngest was invited to a Cookie Baking party by a little girl in his kindergarten class. Her mom pulled out all the stops. The kids made four different kinds of cookies. They each took turns putting in different ingredients. It was a nice event. At the end, they took home a handful of each of the cookies.

It was much warmer at the cookie party than the skating rink that reached a comfortable -12 degrees by lunch time. Seriously, it was freezing in there.

Sunday I should have rested but alas I went to Sunday School, Church and shopping. The good news: I am pretty much done. Need a few stocking stuffers and I need to get busy wrapping, but most of the list is checked off.

What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Updated

On Friday, we brought Copper home from the SPCA. The kids plum tuckered him out because he slept like a little angel that night. The rest of the weekend he cried like a newborn baby every time we put him in the crate. Hubby tells me this will improve.
On Saturday, my son woke up with the stomach flu. Kids are not yet programed to avoid food while suffering from the stomach flu. My son is especially guilty of this.

He will throw up and then ask if he can have a scrambled egg and strawberry flavored milk. Just thinking about that makes me nauseated.
Out of all my children, my son, by far, is the most easy going. He jumps up off the couch, goes to the bathroom to throw up and then lies back down. The girls on the other hand pull out the three Ws. They whine, they wail and sometimes they even whimper. It is all very pathetic.
Wait, before you pull that gender card out of your pocket, let me just say that I have plenty of friends with sons who can out wail my daughters anytime so I'm inclined to believe personality plays a dominate role in this. Feel free to argue if you must.

After grocery shopping on Saturday, I finally got my tree down. Since overdosing on Christmas, it feels great to have my living room back.

Sunday brought the family to yet another church. After attending the same church for over 2 years we've decided to see if we could find a better fit for our family. So far we haven't had much luck. Of course, there is always next week.

After a relatively quite weekend, school started back up today. Can you hear the hallelujah chorus?

Weekend Update...I should be in the movie four Christmases

Raise your hand if you are just a little bit Christmas'd out!

WOW...I am so Christmas'd out it is not even funny. After spending the last three days without Internet access except for useless dial-up I'm also going through a little on-line access withdrawal.

We've been celebrating Christmas since the middle of the month starting with my dad's extended family and then celebrating with my mom and her husband last weekend, we topped things off by spending three days at my husband's parents house.

We had Christmas with in-laws (above is my father-in-law opening his socks) and then we had Christmas with my dad and his wife and then we had Christmas with my Grandma. I don't want to see my kids open another present for a very long time.
Seriously, how am I supposed to scrapbook that much Christmas. It's boring even to me. LOL Currently, my house looks like Toys R Us exploded in it and unfortunately the kids have not forgotten that they each have $20 gift cards. UGH.

Here's a picture of me, the kids and my grandma. I just got my hair chopped off and can't decide if I like it or not. Below is a picture of my family with my dad and his wife.

Weekend update -- Christmas at my mother's

Here are some photo's from this weekend. We celebrated Christmas at my mother's house in Virginia. Thankfully, the weather cooperated. Here is a picture of me with my new Webkinz, Mistletoe the hippo. LOL

Here's my husband, who hates getting his picture taken. Shhhh, don't tell him that I posted this one. His hair is looking a little count dracula-ish...

My oldest was pretty jazzed about this Hannah Montana junior backpack. She's been carrying around her Webkinz in this.

Here's my mom with a new book that we got her. No her face doesn't usually look like that and she'll probably be annoyed that I posted this. About two weeks ago she had a terrible fall while walking her dog. She slipped on black ice and caught herself with her face. She blacked out and broke her cheekbone. Imagine what she looked like then...she's still black and blue 14 days later.

This is my step-dad and his new shirt and tie. He said he was just going to wear it to work and "look good all day"...LOL Hopefully it fits.

Here is my son with his new Webkinz. He got an elephant and a skunk. He named them Peanut and Stinky.

My middle daughter is a huge baby doll fan and this one makes all sorts of noises. Trust me, you don't want to forget to turn her off. She coos, laughs, makes drinking noises, sucks on her binky. Once she opened her, she never put her down.
