Three, Two, One...Let Go
I have trouble letting things go. I have trouble moving on. I let little things annoy me. A lot. I'm working on it. I learned today that only 10 percent of our happiness can be predicted by our outside circumstances. The rest of it, well, that's all in our head.
My dad used to have a sign in his office that said something like, "Life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it."
What it all comes down to is making up your mind to be happy. A lot of random crap happened this month and for a while all I could focus on was the negative.
It felt overwhelming and it made me loose sight of all the things in my life that I need to be grateful for. Everything is not always going to run smoothly and I need to learn how to be OK with that.
Let the reprogramming begin. Let's take sometime to blog about what we're grateful for. Let's take some time to share some intentional acts of kindness. Let's be happy in the present.

Oh my gosh! I love it!! Thank you for posting this!! I love the idea of gratitude - it is such a completely different spin on how we usually approach our life, our worries, our attitudes, our interactions, our happiness. And I love TED talks :)
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh blogger just ate my comment. Frick.
I think I said I LOVE this and thank you for posting it. I think its really important to consider gratitude - it means a radical shift in how we usually approach our lot in life, our worries, our relationships, our future. And I love TED talks. Thank you so much!

10% huh? That's it? Well. I guess I have a lot of reprogramming to do too :) Good luck!!
I completely agree with you! Wake decide to be happy and go with it.... take the punches!! Great post!
Sorry for the tough times you've had recently. Although you've been sharing on your blog, you have never given me the impression that I needed to put up a tin foil shield to guard against your negative vibes. Even your saddest news has been reported with lots of love and gratitude. So, despite what you've been going through, you've always left me feeling grateful. I'll be happy in the present if you will... which means right this second ... oops... it passed... right THIS second... oops... right this... See? Easy!
Good plan! Nothing like retraining your brain. It's totally possible and it's free.
I just wrote up a comment and then it got deleted when I tried to post it. What a pain! ha ha ha ha, guess I should look for the positive in that eh?
thanks for posting that video, it is amazing! Great suggestions and info. I might just try that writing down 3 things each day and see if it can change my outlook on things.
Great post, Thanks!
Gratitude is awesome. I had a gratitude week last week on facebook where for one week my status was changed everyday for things I was grateful for. Thanks for reminding me to do it again! Think I will start Monday on gratitude week once more!
I absolutely agree that being happy can be a decision. It took me a long time to recognize that I lead a remarkably charmed life. I like seeing other who have come to the same conclusion.
Agreed and well put! I once took a big poster board and put it up in my hallway and everyday I would write something I was thankful for on there. It was a great visual representation of what I needed to focus on, rather than negative things. I think I might get myself a new posterboard and do it again!
Thanks for the reminder!
I can be so freeing to let go. I applaud you for trying to do so!
