An open letter to my 7th grader
Dear Oldest G.
Wake up. It's time for middle school.
I can't believe that for the last two days that is how we have started our morning. When did you become a middle schooler?
Middle school is one of those times in your life where fitting in will feel overwhelmingly important. Where the opinions of your friends will matter more than the opinions of your family.
I am not really sure what advice I can give you. Other than being yourself, there isn't much I can say. In the long run, having the right clothes, having the right shoes, all that nonsense doesn't really matter.
Some things to remember (that will mean nothing to you until you are grown).
Everyone, at times, feels left out. Even those "popular kids", who seem to have it all, sometimes feel alone.
Not everyone is gonna like you. Just like you aren't going to find everyone you meet likeable. At 12, this can feel like the end of the world, but you are gonna have to trust me...it's not.
Have an opinion. It is better to have your own opinion than to just go with the popular one. Whether it is as simple as where you'd like to go to dinner or as complicated as your thoughts on life after death have an opinion.
Keep your moral compass in your pocket. If you wouldn't say it to their face than don't text it, or post it or whisper it. Don't touch things that don't belong to you be that a cell phone or your friend's boyfriend.
Don't believe you're the only one. Don't let your peers try to convince you that you are the only one who doen't have this or you're the only one who has to do that or your the only one who has yet to try it. They are likely lying and even if they aren't who cares.
Middle school is a tough time. People change. Friends change.
You will find that throughout your life that when you need a friend it is best to be a friend.
Sometimes our friends show up on our peewee football cheerleading squads and they never leave.
Other times you find them in the lunchroom over shared conversation. Sometimes they greet you at a bus stop just when you didn't think you could feel more alone.
They live next door to you. They work with you. You find them on the playground.
Just be yourself and treat others the way you'd like to be treated (even if they don't treat you kindly) and you really can't go wrong.

Made by Me Monday: more bulletin boards
I have been cutting out bulletin boards non-stop on the cricut over the last month. It has actually been a lot of fun to see these boards spring to life. The pictures I have been posting do not do them justice. Next week, i will try to post pics of the actual boards so you can get a better idea of the size.
This week, I am posting a picture of the kindergarten bulletin board. It features three puppies from the create a critter cricut cartridge. They are cut at 9 1/4 inches. The students names will be written on the bones.

My project was created with the stamp set All About School along with the cricut cartridge Create a Critter. The card includes paper from the DCWV School Days set.

A letter to my 1st grader
Dear Little G.
Are you ready to tackle all that 1st grade has to offer? There will be homework. There will be reading and there will be math.
You may even have to sing in music class instead of just faking it.
I loved that you were both excited and nervous at the start of this year. I think you are going to do just fine. I am really looking forward to hearing you read to me again. Don't tell your teacher, but I kind of let you slack off on that a little this summer.
You had a way of looking at me and convincing me that we were both on vacation.
I am excited to be taking just you to school this year. It will give us a little extra one on one time in the morning. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you make a few more friends this year. Some of your good buddies are in different classes this year and you are going to have to break out of your shell a little and talk to someone new.
Here's hoping for a great year, filled with firsts!

A letter to my sixth grader
Dear Oldest G,
As you start sixth grade, it is important to remember to find the positive and to not dwell on the negative. Yes, you have a male teacher this year and you're not real sure about him. But who knows, he may be the best teacher you've ever had.
Be nice to the fourth graders, you were the youngest in the building not too long ago.
Enjoy catching the bus at 8 a.m. this year because next year that will change to 7 a.m. and you will wish you were still in bed.
It is still hard for me to believe that you are already in sixth grade. I remember how excited you were to start school and how animated you used to be when you returned home. You would tell me story after story about what you did and what you were going to do.
You don't have much to say these days and I have to admit that I miss the excitment of days past. It changed so quickly that I forgot to enjoy the last story.
Here you are at the start of your sixth grade year, half way to the finish line. Half way, already. It doesn't seem possible yet I know it is.
If the next six years go as fast as the first six, I'll be sitting at your commencement ceremony in two shakes of a dogs tail.
Here's hoping that I'll get to hear at least a few more stories before that happens.

Writer's Workshop - Seeking Employment; skills limited

I decided to write about prompt one and prompt four.
If you stopped by yesterday, you already know that my kids start school next week.
When I say kids, I mean all of them. Little G starts all day kindergarten.
Hubby will leave for work and the kids will leave for school and it will just be me and the dog.
So the short answer is I have no idea.
Let's face it there is only so much housework **cough, cough** a person can do.
My name is mommy and I am afraid.
Afraid that I will be lonely.
Afraid that I will be bored.
Afraid that I will miss my kids more than they miss me.
Afraid that I have no real marketable skills. (After all, can you market excellent juice box opener and chicken nugget baker?)
In short, things are about to get interesting....
