An Open Letter to my Insomnia

Dear Insomnia,

I think we need to have a sit down.  You are starting to become a nuisance.  It seems that you have invaded my much needed brain space.  After all, we have already discussed just how many useless song lyrics are trapped in the recesses of my brain.  I need the little bit of space that is left.

Without it, I can't remember things like soccer practice, where I put my car keys and who the heck all these little people are and why they keep calling me mommy.

Lack of sleep makes me a little ill-tempered.

Lack of sleep makes me a little lazy.

Lack of sleep make it difficult to stay awake during the day.

I am willing to barter with you.  In fact, I'm not above down right bribery.

Here's my proposal--you leave me alone.

I get some much needed sleep.  You get out of my brain so that I am not thinking of irrelevant things like PTO speeches, volunteer policies, kale, budget approvals, dress codes, hot and cold vegetables, why middle school sucks and who I need to punch.

In return, I will be less bitchy, more energetic, and significantly easier to live with.

I will yell less and clean more (okay...now I'm just being ridiculous and I'm blaming it on my lack of sleep.)

Sincerely,

~kisa~

Writer's Workshop - Are you sleeping???

Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop - Are you playing along?
When I saw the prompt this week I knew which one I would pick right away. Ten reasons you are not sleeping.
I've talked about my inability to sleep before on this blog both here and here.

While things have improved, I still have my troubles. Here what I think the problem stems from:

  1. Snoring: My husband still occasionally snores. It's better since he got a specially designed night guard, but occasionally the bear returns.
  2. Too much on my mind: craft show, my mom's friend needing Thanksgiving cards, my daughter needing some pants that fit....blah, blah, blah.
  3. Holidays. Is it really almost time to Christmas shop. Say it isn't so??!!??
  4. Thanksgiving: Have it here? Go somewhere?
  5. Work: I'm trying to write more than just briefs about school board meetings. Since starting as a lunch lady this writing has falling aside. It makes me sad.
  6. Play: Sometime I just want to blog and ignore everything and everyone else--even if it's late and I should be in bed
  7. H1N1 and other funk: Now that I'm in the elementary school everyday and I realize just how many germs are walking around and having lunch with my kids, I'm more concerned than ever about the slightest little virus. I blame the media...oh wait I am the media. Never mind.
  8. My dog: I think he's depressed, though it's hard to tell since beagles always look depressed.
  9. My nephew: My sister's insurance company is denying him glucose strips until mid December. Why? He's used his allotment. Even if your 8 your only allowed to have so many. Ridiculous.
  10. Money: Why do so many miscellaneous expenses creep up just in time for the holidays.

I'm sure once I get all of this off of my mind, I will sleep like a baby until then I highly recommend Tylenol Simple Sleep.

Tuesday's Tribute - zzzzzzzzz I need sleep

My son has decided a few things over the last two weeks. These include:

~ The dark is a very scary, unpredictable thing.

~ Fire is terrifying and happens to houses when people are sleeping.

~ Sleeping alone is the scariest thing anyone could ever ask you to do.

~ If someone agrees to lay down with you, cling to them so they can not escape when you fall asleep.

Today's tribute is all about sleep. Glorious, undisturbed sleep. I miss you and I long to have you visit again.

I am so tired.

I feel like I cannot function today and I need to clean up this house and take the kids to swim lessons. I don't want to.

I want to go back to bed.

Sleeping with my son is like sleeping with an octopus. He never stops moving and always has parts of his body flinging towards yours.

I can't seem to reason with him about these fears of his.

About a month ago, he saw a barn fire and now he is convinced that our house is going to burn down. If you listen to him long enough, his argument is so convincing and so sincere, that it cause you to check the smoke alarms.

Through tears, he says things like, "It's too scarwee to sleep by myself, mommy. Sleeping with you or daddy is better cause all the scarwees disappear."

"How do the firemen know how to get to our house?"

"What if the fire alarm doesn't wake everyone up?"

"Are you scarwed of smoke?"

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I'm literally running on empty and starting to develop a fear of fire too.
