Lessons from the Lunchlady: Even Wunch Wadies need hugs

After having a very abbreviated week last week due to weather, this five day week felt LLLLLOOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG.

I would be remiss if I didn't start this post with a HUGE thank you for all the kind words, private messages and Facebook posts regarding the sudden death of my father in law. There's nothing quite like a virtual hug and it was very much appreciated.

Here's what I learned in the cafeteria this week.

Even Wunch Wadies Need Hugs. A kindergartener hugged me super tight this week and proudly announced that he was hugging me even though I was a "wunch wady". I'm not really sure what that meant, but I needed a hug so I really didn't mind.

Ranch dressing looks ALOT like snot. I shook my head at this one too, but it's true. If you let that dressing dry up and congeal, you get the best looking fake snot on the market. It's quite realistic.

Pear, bananas, grapes and oranges. Guess which one kids cannot identify? That's right...they think pears are funny shaped apples. And no matter how hard they try, they cannot pick any of them up with tongs.

"Does the green milk give you more muskkills than the orange milk?" Huh? That was my original reaction. Then I realized the question was "Which milk gives you bigger muscles? The skim (orange container) or the 1% milk (green container)". My response... Milk is good for your muskkills no matter what color the carton is.

Some days feel more like this than others.

What did you learn this week?

Some very interesting things this week, that ranch dressing one is something everyone should know, you know, just in case.
I learned a couple things. First I learned that no matter how long you've known it was going to happen and how prepared you think you are, when your 22 yo daughter comes and tells you that they "got the apartment" and she is moving out in the next week or 2, you cry.
Second, I learned that I am a shopper and couponer par excellance! My grocery bill was $71.94 out of pocket and I saved $90.91 Woooo Hoooo! I love when I can save over 50%. Then I went to Michael's today because I knew they were having a great clearance sale and I needed prizes for the crop next week. They had those little spools of ribbon that are usually $.99 each on clearance for $.14 each, SCORE!!!! So I put a bunch in my card and then to make it even better, when I got to the register, they were 90% off, so I got them each for $.01, YES that is one cent, a single penny each. BIG SCORE!!!! Am I a mad shopper or what? By the way, I cleaned them out and bought all 95 that they had in the clearance bin! My scrappers are going to love these little buggers. Of course I'm not telling them their prizes were only a penny each. LOL!

Ok … what kind of ranch are you serving? That is GROSS!!! And I'm glad you got a hug … even though you are a wunch wady. I bet those big kindergarten muskills hugged you really tight.
