Lessons from the Lunchlady: It's easy to piss off the bank
Less than 20 lunches need to be prepared before summer break is upon us. I have to say that it has been a bigger adjustment than Inexpected going from part time to full time but I have no regrets.
Here's what we learned this week.
Apple crisp: No one wants the apple crisp until you run out. I'm pretty sure there is some kind of law of supply and demand related to this very notion.
It's easy to piss off the bank. You'd think that people who have hours like 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. would be super pleasant. My deposit from grandparent's day had A LOT of coins in it. I separated them all into little ziplock bags and wrote on the bag how much was included but I didn't have any rolls. Guess what came back in my bank bag. Tons of rolls and a note about being required to roll all coins. Who are they trying to kid? I know they have a coin counter. I've been to the bank before.
Kids will notice. Sometimes it feels like kids could care less about school lunch and they'll only notice the negative. But this week when I took the time to make kiwi/orange/blueberry cups just about everyone of those little buggers noticed and were super excited about.
Refried beans still get a reaction. No matter how many times we serve them, we still get a few gasps from the littlest customers who definately judge their food by its appearence. Foods that looks like poop is a hard sale on a K-3 level.
Excited about changes and ideas for next year. If the goal is to continue to improve service and provide healthy meals then we are headed in the right direction.
What did you learn this week?

I learned that a tight yoga shirt with an inverted triangle at an exact position, showing the most cleavage, is a lesson in right angles...
I wish someone like you had been organising dinners when I was at school!

Good lessons learned this week. About that bank situation, I'll tell ya, it sure is easy for the bank to piss me off! Not my band, mind you, but another bank. I had a gal pay me with a check, which is not all that uncommon, so I went to her bank to cash it. The teller asks if I have an account with them and when I said no, she told me that there would be a $7.00 charge to cash it. "Even with it being an account from your own bank that it's drawn on?" "Yes, have you thought of opening an account with us." "No, that isn't gonna happen!"
Come on! Really?!?! You just told me that you will charge people a $7.00 fee to cash my checks and you want me to open an account!?!?!
I think it's criminal to charge like that. I would totally understand if the check wasn't from their bank, but really it comes right from them to me, no middle man, no extra paperwork, nothing!
That happened and then I walked out to my car and while I loaded my groceries a woman parked next to me in the handicapped spot. She didn't put up a tag so I checked her license plate, nope, not a handicapped one. I looked in her car thinking she may have forgotten to put it up, no, no tag anywhere. So I left a note on her car saying "Did you forget to put up your tag or are you just and inconsiderate jerk?" Guess the bank shouldn't piss me off, eh?
Oh NO! I don't see that my comment went through! It was a long one too. All about the bank pissing me off and inconsiderate people. NO!!!! Say it isn't so!
Oh my Kristie! That is a ridiculous bank. I would never bank there!
You always have me laughing here.
That bank policy has always pissed me off. They USED TO BE happy to pop the coins in the sorter.
I'd be super-excited about a kiwi/orange/blueberry cup... well, maybe not the blueberries (I prefer those in muffins).
Refried beans, for me at least, are an adult taste. I wouldn't eat food that looked like poop until I was well into my 30s.
