What I learned in the Cafeteria

Only 7 more work day remain until my boss comes back.

I am looking forward to her return.

Here's what I learned this week:

  • Preparation is important. If you are going to serve lunch at 10:30 because of a field trip you should probably get the frozen PB&J sandwiches out the night before. They were a little on the chilled side today. **smile**
  • Paperwork. I thought there was a lot of paperwork and then the month ended and I realized I hadn't seen anything yet. Plus, my boss is still handing all the actual food ordering. All I'm doing is milk and bread and that resembles a trig problem.
  • Muffins with Mom. It's only 300 plus people at 8:00 a.m. on a Friday. There's no reason to panic. You can have a muffin with your kids before you get there......at some ungodly hour like 7 a.m.
  • Steamers are hot. My co-worker learned the hard way not to get too close to the steamer once it is opened. Good thing she was wearing glasses or she might not have eyebrows.
  • Pay attention to the alternate. Everyday we offer a regular lunch, PB&J and an alternate. The alternate varies from week-to-week. This week it was Yogurt/cheese/crackers. While you may be able to eat ravioli with a fork...you can't eat yogurt...especially if you are five.
  • Bag lunch rocks. Once you get past all the bag stuffing, bag lunch can be fast and efficient and if it's a nice day you can send kids to the playground to eat. There are limited dishes to wash, the cafeteria is easy to clean and you may just find yourself pulling out of the school parking lot at 12:45 on a Friday!

Peace, love and joy to you and yours this weekend.

Frozen PB&J sandwiches?! Sounds like a delicious oversight! On a stick, it might be a great summer taste treat. YUM!

I'm even more convinced that working in the cafeteria is way harder than anyone ever imagined!!!

What's with the muffin mania?

I like bag lunches too.
