Birthday Invite Ideas, Cake suggestions and any other help you can offer

It's that time of year again for me. That time when I start freaking out about my kid's upcoming birthday. What to do? How much it will cost? If her friends will come? I'm gonna need some prozac. My eye is twitchin' just like this dog.
Middle G wants to have a pool party and she wants me to make the invitations. I love to make them, but sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the idea. I mean should we do beach balls, swim suits, penguins?
Plus she wants the worlds most elaborate cake and I'm trying to talk her out of that. What if it's 80 degrees that day? I'll just have a pool of ice cream. No pun, intended. Can't we just make a 9 x 12 cake, frost it blue, and call it a pool? How long do you think this cake will survive out of the freezer...seriously, I want your opinion. I suppose I could check with the pool about possibly using their freezer...hmmm.
Any suggestions, ideas, offers to make invitations for me would be greatly appreciated. The party is June 13th so I suppose I should invite someone.

Wendy,
I would be more than happy to help you with your invitations if you want.

You're over thinking it. Just buy a bunch of invitations and tell her to hand them out. Or mail them to a few closest family and friends. Go to a pool, order a pizza, buy a gift, your done. :)

How great that you can make fun invitations for your kids! They must be so proud of you and your creativity:) I'm not sure about the pool cake idea. The only thing that I can think of is making a "pool" to hold doughnuts or cupcakes. Maybe they would hold up better. Could the doughnuts be decorated inner tubes? Sorry that I'm not too good at this!
