Company

I'm taking a break from my company to type this blog post. My sister and her two kids and our friend G and her two kids are here. I think my husband is looking for things to do just so he doesn't have to deal with the seven kids currently staying here.

They are all behaving rather well, all things considered.

They arrived yesterday afternoon and we had everyone asleep around 9:30 which is pretty good.

Today we spent the day at the pool and had a wonderful time...though I think some of us got a little too much sun.

Tomorrow we are tackling Hershey park with all seven kids with varying heights.

PRAY for me.

How to Avoid Suckation 2010

I'm guest posting over at Turtle Droppings today while Tortuga is off enjoying some blog free time.

Inspired by this post about my SUCKATION last year I decided to write up a post about how you (and hopefully I) can avoid another disaster this year.

We leave for camp on the 7th.

However, I have made some preemptive moves to avoid a similar disaster.

  • The dog is not invited.
  • We are not camping in a tent; we are camping in a cottage.
  • I am bring at least two bottles of wine.

Here's hoping Tortuga is having a wonderful time. Be sure to visit her and leave us both a comment, will ya.

They're like crack....we need them.

Weekend Update: Scrapping Convention

The Great American Scrapbook Convention was a lot of fun. Even my friend, B, who doesn't scrapbook had a good time. Best of all is that there were lots of stamps with turtles on them! I got quite a few of them and can't wait to show you some of my creations. These are some from the show.

My mom, who is a beginning card maker, was enthralled by the creations on display. She joked about how she should get started on her Christmas cards on Saturday for the 2011 holiday.

Especially, if she wants to make this one.

Here's B, mom and me in the center of the convention.

I'll post some of my goodies later this week. I tried hard to keep on a budget and I was happy with how I did. There were a lot of other turtle stamps I could have gotten and didn't, but I'm really happy with the ones I did get.
Pictures later this week.

Time Just Flew Right By Me

Time just flew right by me while I wasn't paying attention. If you see it, grab it and hold onto it for a little while and see if you can squeeze some extra minutes out of it.
Here's how I know it flew right by and I missed it.
~Middle G. is already 9 years old.
~July 1st is next week already. The 4th of July next weekend.
~My sister and her kids, as well as our friend G and her kids will be spending most of next week with us. When I got tickets to Hershey in April for this visit it seemed so far away.
~My kids have already been out of school for 2 weeks! Summer is moving at a very rapid pace.
~I am having trouble keeping up with all of your blogs. Know that i love you even if I haven't commented in a while.
~Vacation (not suckation) 2010 is right around the corner. This year...no dog...no tent and I'm praying no rain.
I'm taking my friend B to a scrapbook convention tomorrow near my mom's house. Just the women are going. The kids are staying home with their fathers. B and I are looking forward to a day away.
Here's hoping we find some really cool bargains.

Update on the Hail Storm of 2010

As you know Mother Nature is a fickle bride or so I've read in a poem or two. Last March we had a hail storm that took us a little by surprise. Neither my husband nor I had ever shoveled hail before and though we heard it came in golf ball size this was the first time we ever saw it. It was like free dippin' dots from heaven. However those dippin' dots were a little destructive.

We figured we wouldn't see it again in our lifetime.

Then May 14th rolled around and we saw something new. Baseball size hail.

When it comes in the baseball size variety it's even more destructive. It slashes the shingles on your newly shingled roof. It punches holes in screens and siding. It dimples your vehicles.

In an ironic twist of fate, this year our insurance company sent an adjuster that was pleasant and easy to work with. He approved the damage in an acceptable amount in less than a week. Last time we had to argue and fight about the roof but this hail storm he offered no argument--no resistance.
Of course, this time the same contractors that couldn't believe the roof wasn't approved last time can't believe the roof was approved this time.
It's an Alanis Morrisette song for sure.

Both vehicles suffered damage too. Last time we had them both in the garage. This time we weren't as lucky.

Here's to no more hail for at least a few years!

Weekend Update: Last T-ball Game, outdoor family fun

T-ball went out on a HOT note. Yesterday's game was a warm one, but it was a lot of fun. The Coach handed out trophies at the end and the boys were all smiles. Here's little G on first base. He had two hits and used the T once. I was really proud of how well he did this year.

Our library has a wonderful summer program that includes a sort of scavenger hunt. There are 30 rubbings hidden at various parks throughout the county. We takled the hardest one over the weekend. It was nearly a 3 mile hike and surprisingly the kids, and the dog, did very well.
Some of you have asked what the rubbings are. The theme this year is water. So the rubbing that we got over the weekend was a storm cloud with a lightning bolt. The best way I can describe the rubbings is that they are sort of like fashion plates.
Do you remember them?
You put a piece of paper over them and then rubbed them with a crayon and bam there was the picture.
There are 30 posts with water theme related fashion plates hidden throughout the county. Hubby and I really enjoy participating in this program. Probably even more so than the kids.
What did you do this weekend?
