2012 Graduation #4
Thankfully the crowd at my last graduation was much better behaved than the crowd prior.
There were no inappropriate remarks, no inappropriate chants and only an occasional cell phone conversation.
The weather was beautiful. Just under 200 students graduated. There were five speeches and a moment of silence for a deceased classmate.
My favorite quote was spoken by the high school principal.

This graduation season I saw just under 1000 students receive their diplomas.
I heard approximately 25 speeches.
Only one included Dr. Seuss.
I was startled by at least four fog horns.
I heard people refer to the superintendent of their district in derogatory slurs.
I saw inappropriate signs.
I saw proud parents weep.
I heard idiots heckle.
I saw students hug, some for the last time.
I saw gaggles of teens ready to take on the world.
Here's hoping they learn from some of our mistakes.

2012 Graduation #3
Approximately 190 students graduated. There were six speeches including the valedictorian, the salutatorian, the class president, the board president, the principal and the superintendent.

Graduation Countdown Flower Pot
I really wasn't sure how this would turnout. A friend of mine asked me if I would make a graduation countdown for her niece, who is graduating this June.
The idea behind it is that once a day, her niece will pick one of the flowers from the pot and read the little message inside written by her mother or other family members.
We told her mom, who is struggling with the idea of her daughter graduating, to try to keep the messages positive.
No "I will be lost without yous" and definitely no "Please stay a little longers." After she picks all the flowers her graduation will be the following day and then she will get to read the graduation letter that looks like the rolled diploma.
I used the Everyday Paper Doll cricut cartridge for the caps and the Disney friends cart for the pawprints. Each card is a 2x4 strip folded in half. They all have a slit in them to slide the cards on and off the sticks.
I was told that the graduate liked it so much it ended up on Facebook in less than 10 minutes.
Now that's a compliment.
